One of the benefits of sunlight is vitamin D production.  However, in some cases vitamin D is not the reason for the beneficial effects of sunlight.  This video explores this in more detail.

Dr. Paul Mason talks about studies that show that it is not only vitamin D that causes reduced mortality due to sun exposure.  He points to studies that show that UVA sunlight causes the skin to produce nitric oxide which helps to reduce blood pressure.
